The Never Summer Yurts are owned and operated by Yvonne "Bootsie" Brodzinski out of Fort Collins, Colorado. The shelters lie in the Colorado State Forest, which is administered within the state park system. (Like other state parks, an entrance fee must be paid when entering the Colorado State Forest State Park.) The State Forest lies on the eastern end of North Park in north central Colorado. The system consists of six yurts and a newly constructed hut. Each yurt is constructed of wood with canvas walls and sits atop stilts surrounded by a wooden deck. Five of the yurts accommodate five people with bunks and floor mattresses. Dancing Moose Yurt can accommodate nine people and the Nokhu Hut can accommodate six individuals. Amenities of each shelter in the Never Summer Yurt system include wood stoves, cook stoves, pots, pans, dishes and cooking and eating utensils. Outhouses are located close to the structures. No dogs are allowed in any of the properties within this system. These backcountry shelters are generally close to trailheads and a variety of terrain. The yurts lie to the west of the Medicine Bow Mountains, which provide a picturesque backdrop, as well as challenging telemark skiing terrain. The system is open for reservations throughout the year.
Directions from Walden: Follow State Highway 14 southeast toward Gould. Approximately two miles before reaching Gould a dirt road leads northward from Highway 14 to North Michigan Creek Reservoir. This is the entrance to Colorado State Forest.
Directions from Fort Collins: Drive north on Highway 287 to the turn off for Poudre Canyon, which is Colorado State Highway 14. Follow Highway 14 west approximately 60 miles to the entrance for Colorado State Forest.
