Description - The Sopris Ranger District surround the communities of Carbondale, Basalt, Redstone and Marble. The District Office is located near Sopris Park, in Carbondale.
Attractions
- The Sopris Ranger District encompasses the area surrounding the small mountain communities of Carbondale, Redstone and Marble, which exist in the lower Roaring Fork Valley. Highlights in the district include the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, the gold medal waters of the Roaring Fork, Frying Pan and Crystal Rivers, the mining district of Marble, Sunlight Ski Area and picturesque Mt. Sopris.
Recreation - This district of the White River National Forest is amazingly beautiful and wonderment in natures majesty is always part of any adventure within it. Activities during the winter months include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and backcountry skiing. During the summer months the heights of the backcountry open for hiking, backpacking, fishing, camping, scenic driving and four-wheel driving. Climate - Climate conditions in Colorado should be taken seriously throughout the state. Snow and ice are common on roads and trails from mid-October through late April. In the summer months snow is still possible but less common. Varying conditions throughout a given day can be expected throughout the year. Remember that summer days can typically have beautiful sunny mornings and short sudden thunderstorms in the afternoon. Please prepare appropriately for your outdoor experience. Location -
The Sopris Ranger District is located along the Crystal and Roaring Fork Rivers near Carbondale. The terrain includes that surrounding Carbondale, Basalt Redstone, Marble and south of Glenwood Springs.
