Description - At this writing, Summer 2003, Crystal Lake Recreation Area is CLOSED due to recent forest fire. Those wishing to visit a visitor center should venture southeast on to Glendora Ridge Road to reach Mt. Baldy Visitor Center where general Forest information, Native American exhibits and nature studies are offered.
The Crystal Lake Recreation Area offers an abundance of recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. Due to the small size of Crystal Lake, boating is restricted to raft and other non-motorized lightweight craft which are able to be carried the distance to the lake. There are two campgrounds associated with the Crystal Lake Recreation Area: Crystal Lake Campground and Deer Flats Group Campground. The California Department of Fish and Game typically stock Crystal Lake each fall, spring and early summer. A fishing license is required for all persons 16 years of age and older. There is a limit of five trout per day. There are numerous trails leading from the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. See Related Activities at the bottom of this web page for a listing of those trails.
Directions from Azusa, CA: Travel San Gabriel Canyon Road 25 miles north to the Crystal Lake Recreation Area.
