Description
- The Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space feature over fifty miles of trails in and around the city. The facilities within the Boulder Parks system feature picnic grounds and greenways that are easily accessed by foot, bus, bike or auto.
Recreation - The recreation opportunities in the Boulder Mountain Parks and Opens Space vary from facility to facility. Many trails receive a very high volume of traffic and therefore are open only to foot traffic. When using the trails within the Boulder Parks system please stay on the trail and follow use restrictions to minimize impact. Hiking and picnicking are the most popular activities for users of the Mountain Parks system. The Open Space facilities allow horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking and fishing. Many of these facilities are wheelchair accessible. Climate - Boulders climate is essentially a mountain climate, although the city lies at approximately 5,300 feet above sea level. The climate is relatively dry with much of the precipitation coming during the winter months as snow. Sunny days prevail in this community with afternoon thunderstorms sweeping through the valley from May through August. The weather can change rapidly in the foothills so be prepared for precipitation and rapid temperature changes in any season. Location -
Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space facilities create a buffer zone of green space around the community. The Boulder Creek Trail leads along that waterway, which leads east-west through the city. The Mountain Parks lie to the west of the city in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and around the Flatirons. The Boulder City Open Space areas surround the city completing the buffer zone of green in the north, south, east and west.
