General Information

Description - The Royal Highway of the Interior Lands follows the Rio Grande River from the United States/Mexico border to Santa Fe. It traverses a land rich in history and culture. The scenic beauty of the Camino Real is as diverse and colorful as its culture, history, and people. From the low-lying flatlands of the south to the soaring peaks of the northern mountains, the terrain climbs 10,000 feet in altitude, creating a landscape of dramatic contrasts.

Attractions - The El Camino Real - New Mexico is known for it's Archeology, Cultural, Historical, Natural, Recreational and Scenic Attractions.

Location -

Directions from : The El Camino Real Scenic and Historic Byway can be easily accessed from Interstate 25 from Santa Fe to Anthony, New Mexico. Beginning in Santa Fe, take NM 16 west to Cochiti. From Cochiti, go to Pena Blanca, and then go to NM 22 toward Santo Domingo. In Santo Domingo, get on NM 16 to get through town, and then get on NM 313 to San Felipe and Algodones.

In Albuquerque, take Roy Blvd. to Fourth St (NM 313), then go to Bridge St., then to Fourth St., and then to Isleta Blvd. Follow NM 147 to Isleta Pueblo, where you get on NM 304 to Belen. Stay on NM 304 until U.S. 60, and then take U.S. 60 west to Bernardo. In Bernardo, get on NM 408 and go through Chamizal, Lemitar, and Socorro. Take NM 1 from Socorro to Monticello, at which point you will take I-25 to Monticello Canyon. Follow NM 181 to Truth or Consequences where you will get on Date Street. Follow this street to Main Street, and then go to Broadway. Follow Broadway to Williamsburg.

Take NM 187 from Williamsburg to Hatch, and then take NM 185 from Hatch to Las Cruces. Next, take NM 188 (Valley Drive) to Avenida de Mesilla, and follow this street to Mesilla. Take NM 28 from Mesilla to Anthony, and then take NM 273 from Anthony to Anapra.
