General Information

Description - The Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway road is a picturesque and unique drive through some of the most scenic, as well as historical, territory in the United States. The terrain encompasses six of the seven major life zones, ranging from arid desert to forested mountains in the space of 40 miles. The history of the area begins with the prehistoric Mimbres culture and includes Native tribes and early Spanish history of the 1500s. Much can be learned about the early cultures and settlements of the Southwestern United States by visiting the Trail.

Attractions - The Geronimo Trail is known for it's Archeology, Historical, Natural, Recreational and Scenic Attractions.

Location - The byway is located in southwestern New Mexico, near Truth or Consequences.

Directions from :

  • Go south from Albuquerque, NM on I-25 for approximately 147 miles to Truth or Consequences, NM.
  • Go north from El Paso, TX on I-25 for 119 miles to Truth or Consequences, NM.
  • Begin your journey of the byway in Truth or Consquences/Williamsburg on I-25. Go to Jct. 187&152 and then on to San Lorenzo. In San Lorenzo go to Jct. NM 35 and FDR 150. Follow FDR 150 to Jct. NM 35, and from there to Beaverhead. Go from Beaverhead to Jct. 59&52, and follow 52 to Jct. 52 & 181. Follow 181 to Jct. 181 &195, and then follow 195 to Jct. With 181 to end of 195. It merges with 177. Follow 177 to Jct. 51 and, then back to 177 to T. or C.
