Trail to Effie Yeaw Nature Center at Ancil Hoffman Park
Description - Ancil Hoffman County Park is home to Sacramento County's only nature center, the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. Dotted with ancient oaks and bordered on two sides by the murmuring American River, you can walk among reconstructed Maidu Indian homes at the nature center, or hit a bucket of balls at the award-winning Ancil Hoffman Golf Course.

Attractions - There are many ways to enjoy Ancil Hoffman. Hikers and joggers will enjoy the miles of nature trails winding through the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. Educators and parents will enjoy the interactive exhibits there. The sports-minded and kite enthusiasts will enjoy the huge playing field located just inside the park. Horses and their riders will enjoy equestrian trails and a reservable horse arena.

The Ancil Hoffman Golf Course is one of America's top 75 courses, according to Golf Digest magazine. Shady even in the summer, the course also houses a spacious clubhouse, a restaurant, and a trophy room subject to reservations. Only have a few minutes to recreate? Hit a bucket of balls on the driving range. It's a surefire way to make stress disappear. The Course serves as home to the Ancil Hoffman Trophy Room, combining the best of a golf and American River Parkway setting, it provides a perfect atmosphere for weddings, meetings or other social or business functions.

For a quiet picnic with friends and family, or even a louder company picnic or party, the riverside picnic area is best. The picnic area is operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not bring glass containers to your party. Dogs must be kept on leashes throughout the park.

The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Parking fees are collected 365 days a year, even on special event days and on weekends.

Recreation - Hiking, horseback riding, nature study, field recreation, picnicking, and golfing comprise the recreations enjoyed at Ancil Hoffman County Park.

Climate - A generally warm, dry climate prevails in the Central Valley; it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Precipitation in the region falls mainly from October through April. Winter temperatures tip well below freezing producing frost, however, snow is very rare. Summer temperatures above 100 degrees F are part of the normal pattern.
