General Information

Description - Welcome to Gibson Ranch County Park. This 345-acre park bristles with as many activities as an old-fashioned ranch. Like the ranches of old, this park also boasts a swimming hole, equestrian center, stocked fishing lake and preserved natural areas. Unlike old-fashioned ranches, however, this park also contains reservable overnight facilities for up to 64 people, and group picnic sites for up to 400. Visiting Gibson Ranch will be like stepping back in time, to the slow enjoyable country life of traditional rural America.

Attractions - Take the kids, the office party or the out-of-town relatives to Gibson Ranch County Park, because it's sure to appeal to almost everyone. A family and group picnic area is available for reservations. Up to 400 people can fit in the group picnic area next to the playground. Historical exhibits and a meeting room are also reservable. A swimming area (with lifeguard) is open during the summer, and access to the natural wonders of Dry Creek is also available here.

Gibson Ranch is full of animals, both wild and tame. Horses, rabbits and birds are raised by caretakers inside the ranch center, while wild animals and birds inhabit the marshes and natural preserve to the west of the park. Anglers young and old can try their luck at Gibson Ranch Lake, which has three fishing docks.

Reservations are required for the informative nature and historical tours of Gibson Ranch.
Horse rentals and lessons, hayrides and other equestrian services are available. See Contact Information for phone number.

The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Parking fees are collected 365 days a year, even on special event days and on weekends.

Recreation - Recreations at Gibson Ranch include horseback riding, picnicking, fishing, swimming, viewing a historic site, and viewing animals.

Climate - A generally warm, dry climate prevails in the Central Valley; it is hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Precipitation in the region falls mainly from October through April. Winter temperatures tip well below freezing producing frost, however, snow is very rare. Summer temperatures above 100 degrees F are part of the normal pattern.

Location - From U.S. Highway 50 or Interstate 80, take the Watt Ave. North exit. From Watt, make a left onto Elverta Road. Make a right into the park entrance, located just past the bridge over Dry Creek.
