Description - Interstate 93 travels between the high peaks of the Kinsman and Franconia mountain ranges. Traveling through the Notch offers access to many special features along one of America's most outstanding parkways. Franconia Notch is the home of the famous Old Man of the Mountain, the same "Great Stone Face" immortalized by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Daniel Webster. The Flume Visitor Center, the exciting aerial tramway at Cannon Mountain and the New England Ski Museum are major attractions. Echo Lake is a also a main attraction offering swimming, nine-mile bike path, fly fishing, rocking climbing and wildlife viewing. Peregrine falcons are often spotted around the cliffs. There is also access to the Appalachian Trail.

- Located just north of the North Woodstock / Lincoln area, this beautiful mountain pass is a haven for tourism. It is the home of the Old Main of the Mountain and year-round recreation opportunities. The state park activities range from hiking to skiing including a nine-mile paved recreation path, swimming beach, campground, museum, gift shop and more. Some of the main features include The Flume Gorge which is dotted with covered bridges and waterfalls, The Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway / Ski Area and The Lafayette Campground and Cannon RV Park. There is also access to the Appalachian Trail.
Recreation - Visitors to the Franconia Notch area will find many amenities and many outdoor recreation opportunities including camping, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating, skiing / snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Climate - Winter can be cold with average temperatures ranging around 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold temperatures humidity bring heavy, water-laden snow to all parts of the state. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts through May. This time of the year is referred to as mud season in the mountains. The sugar is flowing early in the season and wild flowers bloom toward the end of it. Summer is the busiest season of the year for the tourism industry. This is an excellent time to travel, mountain roads are open and most of the mud has dried. Average summer temperatures range around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall brings the leaf lookers to see the spectacular colors of the deciduous trees. Expect to see bus loads of people enjoying the crisp fall New England weather. Location -
Franconia Notch State Park may be reached by traveling north out of the North Woodstock / Lincoln area on either Interstate 93 or US 3. The park is located a few miles north.
