Harriman State Park

Description - Located just 30 minutes north of New York City, this popular park is the state's second largest. It offers 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, three beaches, two public camping areas, a network of group camps, miles of streams and scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species, vistas and vantage points. The park is easily accessed from the Palisades Parkway.

- Harriman State Park's 52,000 acres are located in Rockland and Orange counties. As state's second-largest park in the parks system, it has 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, three beaches, two public camping areas, a network of group camps, miles of streams and scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species, vistas and vantage points. Harriman State Park's major facilities include Lakes Welch, Sebago, Tiorati and Silvermine, the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Sebago Cabins and Beaver Pond Campgrounds. Equally as nice but a 10th the size in acreage is the adjacent Bear Mountain State Park.
Recreation - Harriman State Park offers numerous bridle paths, hiking trails, fishing opportunities, picnicking and cross-country skiing. Cartop boat launch available. Climate - The Harriman area experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.
