Smith Mountain Lake State Park Recreation Description. Mini Maglite Flashlight
Smith Mountain Lake State Park is a recreation haven offering hiking trails, 50 campsites, lake swimming, huge playground, pine-shaded picnic grove, new cabins, a visitor center and interpretive day and evening programs. In 1999, 20 full-service two and three bedroom cabins were built. The cabins are located on a peninsula with each cabin having its own boat slip. The new cabins are very popular; consequently, early reservations are strongly suggested. Boat rentals are available as well and may be arranged through the park's reservation system. Summer visitors will find a fantastic swimming beach, bathhouse, picnic area, fabulous new playgrounds, handicapped accessible fishing pier and concession area. The park's trail system typically follows the lake allowing for beautiful lake vistas and bird watching. In the fall season, visitors are offered a lottery white-tailed deer hunt. Reservations for this deer hunt may be made through the park's reservation system as well. The three-season campground features nicely wooded campsites with electric and water hookups. However, the bathhouse facilities include non-flush toilets and a cold water shower. A camp store is available in the park office carrying limited camper necessities along with a few souvenirs such as walking sticks, T-shirts, etc.
