I was thinking about backpacking into Fall Creek Campground next week for a three nite stay, but since I'd never been there, and it's such a short hike (a bit over 3 miles) from the highway, I thought I'd day-hike in and get a feel for the spot. Boy! Am I glad I did! Although the trail is moderate-to-easy, once you get to the campground it's a major disappointment. By the looks of it, the place has not been maintained at all for 10 to 20 years. The picnic tables are all rotting, falling over, and seriously unsafe. At the two-seater vault toilet, one door is locked tight, the other one is busted off and filled up with trash, and the roof is coming off. The camp area is grossly overgrown and a fire hazard. Grafitti is everywhere. There seems to be a creek below the camp, but it's down a steep, manzanita covered hillside with no apparent trail in sight, so I wasn't even able to tell if there was any water in it or not. Too many cuts to the Forest Service's budget?
