Their are two Trails to the half way point (the fire road/underground cable road). If you go east up the creek it is 1.4 miles to the junction according to the trail signs. The direct route (crossing the creek on a large foot bridge in the Campground)is my preference-1 mile to the junction. Both trails have steep parts but are cleared and easy to follow. From the junction (good place for a snack break)the sign indicates 1.2 miles to the summit. The remaining climb is occasionally steep and has great views of Morro Bay and north towards Hearst Castle. The summit is obvious on your left, at the saddle you reach another signed trail junction. The left trail to the summit of Cerro Alto (+/- 2,650')is wide and steady and less than 10 minutes walk. The right fork heads South along the ridge to Telegragh Peak. The view from Cerro Alto is awesome from San Miguel to Pismo Beach to The blue Pacific-go early when it is clear and cool.
