This mountain-pass road is one of the best ways to see some amazing scenery out of your car window. It crosses the Continental Divide at Independence Pass (elevation 12,095 feet.)
Maroon Creek Road leads to Maroon Lake and the Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in the country. This route is good for taking an all day trip with a picnic stop.
The West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway links Glenwood Springs and Aspen to Crested Butte, Paonia, and Crawford, Colorado. Interpretive panels along the route explain the geological and cultural history of the North Fork country of Colorado.
